Mazda and Skoda launch new players in SUV league
The new compact SUV Skoda Karoq is the premiere of the brand’s stand at the Sofia Motor Show. The new off-road model replaces the Yeti to impress us with its adventurous spirit and remarkable qualities. The all-new compact crossover features a dynamic design and numerous crystal elements typical of the Czech Republic. The model offers generous interior and luggage space, useful new assistance systems, full LED headlights and, for the first time in Skoda, a digital instrument cluster. The new Karoq is available with five engines ranging from 115 to 190 hp, four of which are brand new. All of them have a turbocharger and direct injection, start-stop technology and a brake energy recovery system. The units are combined with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic. A 4×4 drive is available as an option. The new Skoda Karoq, traditionally for the brand, has a bunch of tricky solutions, such as the VarioFlex back and forth sliding system on the rear seats and the power tailgate, which can be opened and closed from the inside using a button in the cabin.
At the motor show in the capital, visitors will also be able to see the new Octavia RS 245, a sports model from the Czech model range. The fastest Skoda is now even more powerful, more dynamic and brings even more emotions to everyday life, because this sports car does not compromise on driving comfort, boot space and everything else that we need in a car. you every day. At the same time, the new top-end variant delivers 245 hp. and allows you to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 6.6 seconds. An innovative lighting system ensures even safer driving, and thanks to the built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, everyone on board the Octavia RS 245 can always be online. Numerous assistance systems contribute to greater comfort and safety during travel. Interior and trunk space remains unsurpassed in the compact segment. Also on display at the Skoda booth are the updated Citigo, Rapid, Rapid Spaceback, Octavia and Octavia Combi models, as well as the Fabia Monte Carlo, Fabia Combi and, of course, the new 7-seater Kodiaq off-road model. For lovers of sporty luxury, the flagship Superb is available in a special Sportline version in the eye-catching Dragon color.
The premiere of the Mazda CX-5 crossover of the new generation took place at the Sofia Motor Show. The new model combines Mazda’s latest developments in design and technology. The second version of the crossover will offer its owners a new dimension of driving pleasure. The design of the new Mazda CX-5 is based on the new philosophy of KODO — «Soul of motion», which gives the car a striking appearance. Most significantly, the new model features narrower headlights and a voluminous chrome grille frame that is now curved and shoots under the lights. The car is available with two petrol engines SkyActiv-G 2.0 and 2.5, as well as diesel SkyActiv-D 2.2. All three engines are mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, with a 6-speed automatic transmission available as an option.
Another highlight of the Mazda booth is the unique Mazda MX-5 RF roadster with retractable hardtop. The new version of the MX-5 RF is equipped with one of the fastest roof control systems. The roof can be opened and closed at the push of a button, even when driving at speeds up to 10 km/h. The new Mazda MX-5 is available with a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 131 hp. and a 6-speed manual transmission. If that’s not enough, there’s also a more powerful 160-hp 2.0-litre option that’s mated to a 6-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic.
